Q&A with Christine and Sarah from Wellness Travelled

Where was your favourite place you have ever travelled? What made it special?

The trip we often reflect on the most is our trip to Thailand about 8 years ago. We were there for 3 weeks, so it really allowed us to explore the country at a slower pace and really enjoy each moment to the fullest. We loved the culture, the food and how genuinely nice the locals were. We also did a homestay experience with a Karen family in Northern Thailand and found it to be one of the most culturally enriching travel experiences we’ve had to date.

What is your favourite travel activity in Canada!

It’s so hard to pick just one so here is our top 3:

  • Relaxing in cottage country on a hot summer day. Being from Ontario we have come to appreciate our abundance of lakes and the cottage culture that comes with it. We love spending a weekend lazing on the dock, cooling off in the water, and if we’re lucky, taking a boat ride at sunset.
  • Going to the spa. There are so many amazing spa experiences in Canada that allow you to focus on your health and wellness while you travel. A few of our favourite spas include Ste. Anne’s Spa in Grafton Ontario, The High Acre in Dundas Ontario , La Source Bains Nordiques in Rawdon Quebec, and Nordik Spa-Nature in Chelsea Quebec.
  • Hiking our National and Provincial Parks. Canada has so much natural beauty are our parks are the perfect way to experience it. A few of our favourite parks include Fundy National Park and Hopewell Rocks Provincial Park in New Brunswick, Greenwich Beach Boardwalk hike in Prince Edward Island National Park, The Grotto hike in Bruce Peninsula National Park in Ontario, Banff National Park in Alberta, Pacific Rim National Park in Tofino, and Yoho National Park in BC.

How did you get into travel, have you always loved travelling?

We started travelling when Sarah became a travel agent after university. This job provided her with lots of amazing opportunities to travel for free or at a low cost. Christine would often be able to join as Sarah’s plus one on her trips. We both got the “travel bug” during this time, and used all our time off from work to travel wherever we could afford to. Fast forward to today, and now we can both travel for a living thanks to the power of social media. If you are interested in becoming a full-time content creator in the travel space, we have created e-books to provide guidance on growing your following and building your client list! wellnesstravelledshop.com.

Do you plan an itinerary ahead of time before you travel, if so, how do you collect information on what you want to see?

It really depends on the destination, but for the most part we like to research and build out an itinerary before the trip. This allows us to spend more time on the trip having fun, and less time on our phones looking for things to do while we’re there.

We get most of our travel inspiration from social media (Instagram and TikTok). We also sometimes use Google, as there are lots of amazing travel blogs with great long format travel advice. We also love to ask friends and family who have already been to the destination for some tips. And lastly, we love to ask the locals once we get on the trip for recommendations as they often know the “local faves” and hidden gems not found online.

What is one thing you will always bring in your travel bag?

Besides the obvious items like our ID, I would say these 5 items ALWAYS accompany us on ANY trip:

  • Sunscreen
  • Headphones
  • Eye mask
  • Ear plugs
  • Reusable water bottle
